Rally Days at Busselton Horse & Pony Club

"The Working Rally is the backbone of the Pony Club Movement"
Pony Club WA Handbook

One of the main objectives of pony club is to encourage and improve horsemanship amongst the riding members and our monthly Club rallies is where the magic happens.

Renae, our Rally Coordinator, does an amazing job of ensuring the Club's coaching program covers the current Pony Club Australia (PCA) Syllabus of Instruction and that is implemented safely and professionally. The Members have the opportunity to experience a plethora of drills and exercises as a result of the high calibre and variety of coaches that Renae invites to our Club.

What is a Rally?

Your guide to our favourite day of the month!

A 'Rally' is simply our Club’s main training day. It’s when our members come together at our Queen Elizabeth Drive grounds to learn, practice, and socialise. Think of it like a "team practice" in other sports, but with more hay and carrots!

What happens on the day?

Our rallies are structured to be both educational and fun.  A typical day includes:

Expert Coaching:

Riders are grouped by their age and skill level for lessons in various activities which may include cross country, flatwork, handy pony or many others.  The Pony Club attracts a wide variety of highly qualified and well regarded coaches.

Horse Mastership:

It’s not just about riding! We teach kids how to care for their ponies, from grooming and saddling to basic health checks.

The "Pony Club" Social:

Lunchtime is a great chance for parents to have a cuppa and for kids to build friendships that last a lifetime.

WHAT PEOPLE ASK...?

Does my child need

Most of our members bring their own horses or ponies to rallies. However, if you are just starting out and don't have a horse yet, please contact us!

We can chat about local options or invite you to come along and watch a rally to see how it all works.

What do we need to bring to
be Rally Ready!

Well you and your pony - of course!

What do I need to know about Gear Checking?

Gear Check is an important and compulsory part of rally.  Our club has a qualified PCWA Gear Checker.

Whilst we don't expect riders to have the newest or most expensive gear, we do insist that it is safe, fits your horse/pony properly and it is well looked after.

You will be gear checked at the start of each rally. This is not anything to be worried about but rather an opportunity to learn from people who are experienced and can teach you about correctly fitting tack.

There are many second hand gear Facebook Groups including our own.  If you are unsure when shopping for tack and clothing, please feel free to ask a fellow member for advice on gear to ensure it is still safe and well maintained.
