2026 Tetrathlon
Bring out your inner athlete
Tetrathlon is the ultimate test of a rider’s athleticism, however, you don’t need to be an elite athlete to compete, it is all about giving it your best!
Tetrathlon is a fun and friendly multi-discipline event designed to give Pony Club members the chance to try something different, challenge themselves and enjoy competing alongside their friends. Combining riding, running, swimming and shooting, it’s all about participation, encouragement and having a go. No matter your experience level at any of the disciplines, Tetrathlon is a great way for younger members to build confidence, develop new skills and experience the excitement of competition in a supportive Pony Club environment.

Where can I enter or find more information?
Nominate will have the entry pack and contact information, closer to the event. Pony Club WA and Pony Club Australia also have further information regarding rules, age categories and attire.

What kind of horse riding do you do at a Tetrathlon?

Do I need to be a good swimmer or runner?
Not at all! Tetrathlon rules are different from eventing, and you can still get points for the run and the swim, no matter what speed you choose to go.

What is the difference between a Tetrathlon and an Equathon?

What is the environment like at a Tetrathlon event?
Warm, friendly, supportive and FUN! If you don’t know something or have any questions, there is always someone to ask that will help.

Can I compete with
someone else?
Traditionally, the riding phase of Tetrathlon is usually a modified cross country course, with a gate and a slip rail, sometimes combining show jumps for a more Hickstead style event. With some clubs having limited access to cross country courses, Tetrathlon may also be an extended show jumping round.
Tetrathlon consists of 4 phases- running, swimming, laser pistol shooting and horse riding. Equathon’s are usually 3 phases, where the organiser can choose which ones they run. Our Equathon class requires a run, swim and 30cm extended show jump course, which is a great way to be introduced to the sport, particularly for younger riders.
Yes, you can compete as an individual, or in a pair. If you are competing in a pair, each person does 2 phases eg. Competitor A runs and swims and Competitor B completes the shoot and the ride, with the scores from both being combined for their final placing. One person has to be a current member of Pony Club for the horse riding, however, the other can be a family member, school friend or work colleague. Further rules and information can be found on the Nominate entry page.
